Recruiting

Overview

Our team prides ourselves on the energy we bring to every training session and every meet. We are a close-knit team striving to improve ourselves and our teammates and compete at the highest level.

Each year we host tryouts to choose our competition team of approximately 20-25 members. Our team doesn’t just train and compete together, but we form strong friendships and host events outside the gym. When you’re on our team, you’ll quickly find that the team becomes family.

We train with a competitive mindset, striving for excellence in our lifting, recovery, and competition. If you want a taste of just how much fun we have, check out some of our instagram reels!

Training

Each athlete has the opportunity to train with our coach, Madison Mackay. She has been weightlifting since 2017 and has over 11 years of coaching experience between weightlifting and girl’s volleyball. Madison obtained her USAW Level 2 coaching certification in 2020 and her coaching philosophy since has been to treat everyone like a human first and an athlete second. Her style guides athletes through a detailed periodized program while giving them the tools to learn and become independent thinkers in the sport. Madison utilizes Google Sheets with formulaic components to allow each athlete to track their progress and tailor their training needs.

Our training expectation is 3 days/week on weekdays at our off-campus facility (we carpool members over there!). These can be whichever 3 you choose (MWF, TWTh, etc), as we have the facility every night. We train between 4 and 8 pm. Each training session is high quality and intentional and every workout and exercise has a purpose and a role in that day, week, month, etc. Commitment to the program will bring success in return.

Facility

We train off campus at Clintonville Barbell (~8 minutes away) where we have access to OLY platforms within the Crossfit facility. There are multiple platforms with Rogue kilo plates, several men’s and women’s Rogue IWF bars, squat racks, and countless amounts of equipment for accessories (dumbbells, med balls, kettlebells, bands, etc). We have the space anytime (though we usually go between 4 and 8 pm).

Some weekends we will do team training at the facility in the mornings–of course, we always follow this up with a team breakfast!

Meets

We typically aim for all of our athletes to do 1-2 meets/semester (and 1-2 over the summer). Generally we do the State meet in Ohio in August, a travel meet in November and January, University Nationals in March, and a summer meet. We also have had options of local meets around these times.

Not all meets are not required but are highly encouraged as we train to be competitive in the sport.

We send our coach and athlete-coaches to all meets so you will always be assisted! Our team brings the energy to each meet so you can count on some meet-day excitement!
